ALTERED FERAL STATE, INC.

Altered Feral State is organized to address issues related to feral cats in Walton, Gwinnet, Newton, Jasper, Morgan and Rockdale Counties and throughout Georgia to improve the lives of homeless and feral cats and eliminate their breeding through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Educate the public about the plight of stray and feral cats and the need to spay/neuter pets, support feral cat caretakers and gain recognition of the beneficial role they perform, and promote the adoption of long-term, caretaker-based solutions regarding feral cats.

Our vision is to have communities where no kittens are born wild, where no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and where no adult feral cats go wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.

  We Need Your Help

After the sudden death of our Founder and Director Carolee McKay, we have reorganized
and now find ourselves in need of a new location for our shelter. We have been asked to leave our current location.

We found land to build a new shelter on and now we are trying to raise the funds to build a shelter for all our cats and kittens.
If you could please find it in your heart to donate what ever you can afford the cats and kittens and volunteers would greatly appreciate it. Every dollar helps, no amount is to small and it is Tax deductable.

So start out your New Year 2012 with a feel good feeling that you helped cats and kittens get a new home that can not be taken away from them ever again.

Thank you so much for your support

Our purpose and commitment are to:

  • Promote community awareness of the responsible care and treatment of animals.
  • Create a feral cat network of caregivers and rescuers to encourage working together, sharing experiences, information, and support.
  • Facilitate the work of caretakers in caring for feral cats and controlling feral cat population growth.
  • Provide a communication network and support resources for caretakers.
  • Assist people in starting their own managed cat colony by providing information, expertise, advice, support and traps.
  • Work with and educate decision makers and governmental agencies in appropriate and humane solutions for feral cats.
  • Change local ordinances to protect the caretakers of feral cat colonies.
  • Getting local animal control policies changed to endorse Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
  • Implement and manage programs that benefit the communities we serve.
  • Provide a humane and effective alternative to euthanasia, through spay/neuter, vaccination, release and ongoing managed care of unsocialized cats, and adoption of tame cats and kittens.
  • Organize a network of veterinarians who will spay/neuter and vaccinate at no or low cost.
To date, our efforts are supported by:

  • Neighborhood Cats
  • The Humane Society of the United States
  • Alley Cat Allies
Our purpose is to join efforts with other animal welfare groups,  and concerned citizens to achieve our common goal of making Georgia a safe place for animals.
