ALTERED FERAL STATE, INC.

Altered Feral State is organized to address issues related to feral cats in Walton, Gwinnet, Newton, Jasper, Morgan and Rockdale Counties and throughout Georgia to improve the lives of homeless and feral cats and eliminate their breeding through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). Educate the public about the plight of stray and feral cats and the need to spay/neuter pets, support feral cat caretakers and gain recognition of the beneficial role they perform, and promote the adoption of long-term, caretaker-based solutions regarding feral cats.

                                          Attention Please

We are a TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) group. We can not take in your unwanted, found, or stray cats/kittens. We are not a Rescue group. Please contact a Shelter or Rescue group who does and can help you.

The cats and kittens in our shelter come from our TNR projects, these cats/kittens joined a feral group for survival because their human dumped them. These are the cats/kittens we help to find a loving forever home.

Thank You for your understanding.

We do NOT remove the cats from your property!!!

We do not accept owner surrenders.

We do not take in cats/kittens you "find

Walton County District 3 , PetSmart Charities has given us a Grant to spay/neuter your feral cat colonies! So come on Walton County let's get the feral cat population under control, call for your TNR (trap, neuter, release) appointment today

Dear Friends of Altered Feral State,

As many of you are aware, the Founder and Director of Altered Feral State Inc., Carolee McKay, passed away in July. With our dedicated & loving team of volunteers, and generous donations, we have been able to keep our shelter and adoption program going strong. We have placed 126 cats and kittens in their forever home since August!

In order for our organization to continue these programs and to fulfill our core mission efforts of TNR (trap-neuter-return) that our late founder & director started, we must have a facility to operate from and we must also continue to provide a home for the cats entrusted to our care until they are placed in their forever homes.

We recently began construction of a new shelter and we need your help!

1. Monetary donations of any amount to go towards the construction of the new shelter are greatly appreciated. No amount is too small and donations are tax deductible!

2. Consider adopting one or more of our cats. We have so many great cats that need your help in finding their forever home. Many of the cats that live at our shelter are semi-feral and need loving families that understand their personalities and needs. Don’t let the word ‘feral’ worry you, these cats are not mean or aggressive, simply they are shy and somewhat stand-offish. They need the love and care of someone with patience to work with them to help their true personalities shine through.

3. Spread the word! If you are unable to make a donation or adopt a cat, you can still be a huge help just by helping to spread the word! Like us on FaceBook and share our story with your animal loving friends.

Our vision is to have communities where no kittens are born wild, where no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and where no adult feral cats go wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.

  Fiesty1.JPG

This is Fiesty, he had a ruff start in life as a kitten and we thought we were going to loose him when he developed a condition where his body went into convultions and he acted like he was crazy. It was hard to watch this little kid fight for his life. He stayed with the vet and was watched and treated. But we still do not know what happened to him. Tests were inconclusive.
But Fiesty snapped out of it and he is now a young man and the love of the shelter.
He is our shelter greeter to all the new cats and kittens that
find themselves lost and alone in a strange new location. He will sit with the kittens and protect them as they play, he will befriend any cat that needs his special understanding.
Fiesty is our little Hero.

Our purpose and commitment are to:

  • Promote community awareness of the responsible care and treatment of animals.
  • Create a feral cat network of caregivers and rescuers to encourage working together, sharing experiences, information, and support.
  • Facilitate the work of caretakers in caring for feral cats and controlling feral cat population growth.
  • Provide a communication network and support resources for caretakers.
  • Assist people in starting their own managed cat colony by providing information, expertise, advice, support and traps.
  • Work with and educate decision makers and governmental agencies in appropriate and humane solutions for feral cats.
  • Change local ordinances to protect the caretakers of feral cat colonies.
  • Getting local animal control policies changed to endorse Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
  • Implement and manage programs that benefit the communities we serve.
  • Provide a humane and effective alternative to euthanasia, through spay/neuter, vaccination, release and ongoing managed care of unsocialized cats, and adoption of tame cats and kittens.
  • Organize a network of veterinarians who will spay/neuter and vaccinate at no or low cost.
To date, our efforts are supported by:

  • Neighborhood Cats

Our purpose is to join efforts with other animal welfare groups,  and concerned citizens to achieve our common goal of making Georgia a safe place for animals.
